Success means different things to different people. An achievement you might consider insignificant, kinda like trash, may be someone else’s finest feat which they treasure. It depends on what you value, what you’re aiming for and how easily something comes for you.
We’re often given conflicting messages that impact on our perception of success. Your idea of success may be excelling in sport or music, getting your driver’s licence, completing 12 years of schooling, being a loving mum, being a model, making a lot of money, being popular, living a balanced lifestyle, having a family, owning a business, or simply getting to the next level in ‘Candy Crush’. Whatever it may be, it is unique to you.
It isn’t fixed either, sometimes our idea of success grows or changes as we do.
You are given your passions, abilities and interests for a reason. We are all different so that we can bring different things to the world. It doesn’t matter if your idea of success is different from others. We need all the successes!
We get a choice to let others influence our confidence and decisions, or to be content with who we are and the path we are taking. You might still be figuring out what your passions are and what your idea of success is. You can appreciate others’ accomplishments, while working on your own. But when you compare, you leave yourself open to wondering if your treasure is trash after all.
While striving for your treasured triumphs, remember to give thanks for the baby steps you make along the way. It often takes longer than you think.
Hunt for your treasure, not someone else’s.
