The bedroom is everyone’s favourite resting place, but it’s also a spot to hang out with friends, have phone conversations and study for exams. If you find yourself standing in a clutter of clothes, or struggling to find a place for your old magazines, books and fluffy animals, it might be time to revamp your room!
1. Let the colour in!
Did you know colours can affect the way you feel? You can lift your mood by adding just a little more colour to your room – it’s a complete life-changer! If you are used to black, grey and white shades, consider breaking these up with coloured furniture like chairs, pillows and ottomans. Otherwise, monochromatic posters also do the trick! But, try not to overdo it. Like the design experts say, stick to the rule of three – more than three colours will clash, so the ones you choose should be the brightest of them all!
2. Show off your motto!
If you don’t have a life motto yet, it’s time to find one! But don’t fret if you can’t – the one for you will show up, in words or a picture. It can even be a quote said by someone you know personally. Just be conscious of what you’re hanging on your wall… a motto should motivate you, and make you feel eager to pursue your dreams. Don’t be satisfied with a generalised, basic saying, or a picture that leaves you feeling underwhelmed. Search for a motto that brings out the best in you, and feels as though it was made only for you.
3. Mirror, mirror on the wall...
You are the fairest of them all... and your mirror will always show it! Set it up next to your window to reflect natural sunlight. It will highlight your beautiful features, and make you feel fresh and rested! You can choose a portrait-sized mirror for styling your hair and doing your makeup, or you can opt for a full-length mirror for trying on outfits. Frames do differ in colour and shape, so pick one that matches your bedroom’s aesthetic and you are good to go!
4. Boho details!
Bohemian decorating – boho for short – is a mix of geometric and cultural elements. It’s a popular aesthetic in the interior design world, which means you can easily find boho-chic décor in any furniture store. Boho brings together colours and patterns, and makes your room feel like creative, carefree chaos! To nail this style, try these soy scented candles; they’re both stylish and affordable, and will leave your room smelling soy good! Try going for soft, plain bed linen and add some makeshift canopy drapes – your room will feel instantly cosy.
5. Personalised workspace!
If homework is boring, this doesn’t mean your workspace should be. Textured elements like a rug or throw, a framed art piece, cute stationary or a neon light are great ways to personalise your room. Functionality is important too. You can incorporate drawers, floating shelves, and a power-board for charging all of your electronics! When you have an organised work area, there are fewer distractions and you’ll be able to finish your homework in no time.
6. Airy design!
Keep your focal room furniture (like your bed) and any essential pieces (like your bed lamp) plain and simple. Your taste can change drastically over time, so you don’t want to be replacing anything major! If you have a beige or white bed, you can bring in a few pieces to achieve the look you’re after. Be sure to eliminate any clutter and mess next to your windows. Let the sunlight in! Remember, a clean room is always the most stylish one. Then, start getting creative. Bring out your arts and crafts, invite your friends over and throw a decorating party!
