Mainstream media tells us that ‘beauty’ is usually determined by someone’s appearance. But true beauty is more about personality, character and mindset.
It’s a woman who is comfortable with herself, who takes on the world in her own way, rather than letting the status quo dictate her direction.
I look up to strong-minded women who are happy with who they are and where they're going in life. They cheer me on in my endeavours and enrich my life with their wisdom, knowledge and encouragement.
There is so much pressure on girls and women to be a particular version of beautiful, that many end up determining their worth by comparing themselves against this standard.
We teenage girls are vulnerable to this influence because we are on a search to discover our identity and purpose. When it is so often implied that to be beautiful means only to 'look good', insecurities sneak in and we can become wrapped up in meeting these expectations.
But you only get to live each day once, so why waste time trying to be someone you are not? Do what you love, what makes your heart sing and what enriches others, because at the end of your life, that will be all that counts.
Have you seen someone who is just so happy that their smile lights up a room? Now that is truly beautiful!
So if you think about it, a better definition of beauty would describe someone who overflows with infectious love, passion and happiness.
So don’t let anyone tell you that you are not beautiful, because YOU ARE!
You may not be a ‘typical beauty’ but that’s okay, because you are all sorts of lovely, and no one is really typical when you look close enough.
So go out today with a smile on your face because you are here for a reason, and that reason is not just to look good; it’s to make a difference in the lives around you by being true to your beautiful self.
It is when you are your true self that you make the biggest difference in the lives of the people around you. Take your own path, even if that means the path with less traffic.
Never underestimate the impact and power of who you are, on the inside. You are beautiful, girl!
