How do I find my passion and purpose in life?
Draw a rough time-line of your life so far showing significant events.
Now put in any experiences you have had that gave you a sense of fulfilment or any that helped you to change and grow.
Are there any experiences you would like to have which would fuel a passion within you?
Have you had unpleasant experiences which could spur you on to change things for others? (In your family/education/vocation/serving)
Could you begin to write your own Mission Statement?
To remember where I have been and where I will go through maintaining positive relationships with family and friends.
To choose the ethical way by making a personal commitment to honesty and integrity.
To find peacefulness within myself by looking inward while using my heart to guide my dreams and desires, and my mind to pursue knowledge, creating balance among all of my obligations.
To content myself in my surroundings so I will always know where security lies within my life.
To enjoy every moment along this journey finding laughter, love, and happiness with each day that passes.
If you have discovered a passion deep within you, what additional direction will you need to take?
Let's come at this another way:
Ask yourself these questions. There is no scoring, no right or wrong answers.
1. Do you have any hobbies? Subjects at school you have loved?
2. What one subject can you enjoy talking about for hours?
3. What do you most enjoy doing for others?
4. Pretend you have reached the end of your life. What's the one thing you want to be happy about having done or having been?
5. Who ‘out there’ in the world have you come to care about the most? Who do you most want to help? enable? reach?
Still looking for a passion? For one week try keeping 2 lists - one of the activities you have NOT enjoyed and one for those that have been fulfilling. The second list may show you a pattern of your giftings or give you a few clues.
If you have discovered a passion within you there are just a few extras you will need!
Be on the journey to discover who you are....
Find what you really enjoy doing - there are some keys there but ability is not always passion.
Seize opportunities - you never know what's around the corner. You may not get your dream job but nothing is wasted. Live life to the full!
Dream the impossible - you never know what's around the corner.
Dreams can be small and big, natural and spiritual, there is no difference.
The expression of your dreams will be different from how you visualise them. Don't be discouraged by the hard times on the way to your goals - you are going through a reshaping process.
Find good mentors.
There is always a cost, be prepared to labour in love.
Failure and mistakes are quite OK - great learning opportunities!
Work\jobs that perfectly fit our calling is not a right but a blessing. (Michelangelo said: Having seen that the times are contrary to my art, I do not know if I have hope of any further salary)!
If you have too many choices or are good at too many things, you can get overwhelmed. Narrow your focus. Pick one or two options and do them with all your might.
Find one or two friends who share your passion and will back you. Don't be overly concerned if not everyone agrees with you. (They won't!)
When we feel we have an assignment that is far too big for us - get help!
Be humble and teachable.
The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.
