We stumbled upon Hannah’s artwork after she entered a bella colouring competition (and won)!
We are quite taken with her talent, and thought you might like a peek at her works too!
Hannah would like to thank her friend, Bonnie, for photographing her art for her (and us).
When and how did you start painting and drawing?
I’ve always enjoyed messing around with a paintbrush. It started to become a regular thing in high school when I got encouraging feedback from my friends after experimenting with some drawing. I haven’t had professional lessons but I try to squeeze as much as possible out of art classes at school.
What do you love about it?
Art is an amazing method of stress relief. I sometimes find it hard to deal with stress and have struggled with anxiety at different stages. Art is a beautiful way to take my mind off whatever is bringing me down and just forget about my struggles for a while.
How do you feel when you finish a piece?
Finishing a piece always gives me a deep sense of accomplishment and productivity. I really enjoy stepping back and admiring each little area of it and looking for the faults to improves next time. I’m always learning.
What is the hardest part about it?
When I am having a bad day and nothing I do meets my expectations. On these days I try not to take it too seriously and just be content making as much mess as possible. I keep in mind that I can always paint over things and even making pointless messes relieves tension.
How do you think of what you're going to paint or draw?
I follow some amazing photographers online and often find myself scrolling through their work to get the creative juices flowing. A lot of my art relates to my emotions at the time of creation, and are almost like a tiny window into my heart.
Which piece are you most proud of?
I have a lot of pieces I am fond of. I appreciate them all together in a large display as well as individually, but each one has its story to tell and each story is special.
What has influenced your work?
The incredible artists I admire and whatever else I find pleasing to look at. I am often inspired by the landscape around me and the immense detail in creation. I try my hardest to capture the beauty of the things I draw from nature, but I know it won't be quite the same as what first captivated me.
What else do you do for fun?
I love singing! And I find great joy in collecting plants, mostly succulents and cacti, to the amusement of my school friends. I often surround myself with my little potted friends at home, to help the creativity flow into my work and help keep me calm and focused.
What is your favourite breakfast food?
That’s a hard one, haha! I’m known for my not-so-good cooking. I love fruit salad but usually run out of time to whip one up before school so I go to the next best thing - toast and a mug of green tea!
What is in store for the future?
I hope to keep creating and blessing people through my work. I’d love to have an art studio of my own and work from there every day when I finish school. I hope to pursue what I love and feel called to do, whether that be music, art or something different.
Thank you Hannah for being such a gorgeous go-getter! Please keep painting and drawing, we think you're marvellous!
Have some encouragement to shout out to Hannah? Please go ahead!
