Christmas with our clan was a similar story to most; hectic, loud, and far too much food – though I'm not fully convinced there is such a thing as 'too much' cheeseball. Like every family, ours had some quirky traditions which made Christmas our own – some we still keep to this day. Here are a few examples:
1. We have never owned an artificial tree. The benefits of living on a farm means we have our very own supply of Christmas trees in the back paddock! Setting them up and decorating was always a challenge as the needles were so spiky we'd be covered in scratches (and bugs, and spiders) by the time we finished. Still, nothing beats a real tree!
2. Every year the kids on my dad's side of the family would perform a nativity skit for the adults. We'd really get into it – making costumes and props, practicing our lines, and fighting about who got to play what role.
3. Whenever it was my family's turn to host the annual Christmas get-together, out came the go-cart dad made for us. All the kids would spend the afternoon taking turns in riding it down the hill. Then came the fun part – pulling it back up again!
