I am Phoebe, 15 years old and from Western Australia. I live in a small country town and I love photography. So much so that my little brother has become a rather important model in my photos.
I have always loved being behind a camera, or in front of one for that matter! I got my first camera when I was 8 - a pink Canon I thought was so cool (but now I think it was rather terrible!). At the time I thought I was so professional!
I love the camera in your hand, your eye looking through the lens, I feel like I am staring into a different dimension.
I was introduced to photography by my mum who has always loved taking photos of me and my brother. Seeing her so happy with the memories she had captured launched my interest in photography. My parents support me, they want me to be happy and I find that this is my true happiness.
Living in a country town exposes me to the variety of different scenery especially when harvest and seeding is happening. Then the fauna and flora are absolutely awesome. I find that I am always finding something new to photograph.
Most of the photos I take are showing how beautiful and tranquil my town is but in reality we are one of the busiest tourist attractions, but I only want to show how I see the town – small and peaceful.
I do a subject at school called Media Studies and it covers everything from photography to film making to advertising. This is where my spark for Cinematography (operating the camera) was lit. I got my first professional camera this year for my birthday and we have been inseparable ever since.
Subjects for my photography range from nature to people to buildings or even graffiti. I have always been enthralled by the beauty around me and I’ve realised that most people take this for granted. You can also tell a lot about my personality from what I find beautiful and what I find upsetting.
Photography plays such an important role in my life today that I can’t wait to share it with the world!
