‘Dashing through the bush, in a rusty Holden Ute,
Kicking up the dust, esky in the boot,
Kelpie by my side, singing Christmas songs,
It's summertime and I am in my singlet, shorts and thongs.’
Christmas for me is pretty much the Aussie Jingle Bells song, and travelling to see family for a big day of playing games, having fun and enjoying the beautiful Australian day. We used to all gather in Brisbane for a biiiiiig family lunch where there was lots of potato salad (my mum’s was always my favourite) and plenty of desserts.
Christmas always stirs up these childhood memories even now when it’s changed because most of the kids and families have either moved on or have families of their own to celebrate with. My favourite memories of Christmas are hearing my mum singing carols, watching my family experiment with new recipes and foods, decorating the Christmas tree with as many ornaments as I could, and making Christmas cards for others, just to share a little of the joy I feel when Christmas comes around.
It is definitely my favourite time of the year!
